Musk is exceptionally expensive. Musk Deers are protected by legislation. Since obtaining the deer musk requires killing the endangered animal, nearly all musk fragrance used in perfumery today is synthetic.





However, there is demand for Deer Musk in Traditional Chinese medicine. Other animals have been killed for their musk too see links below.
